  • Congress finally passes last-minute deal

By a vote of 81-18 in the Senate and 285- 144 in the House, Congress agreed to a bipartisan bill to temporarily reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling. President Obama signed it into law after midnight.

    Here's the plan they approved:

    • Fund the government through Jan. 15
    • Raise the debt ceiling through Feb. 7 and give the Treasury room to maneuver after that
    • Require government to certify incomes of people who receive subsidies from Obamacare
    • Deliver backpay to furloughed federal workers
    • Agree to talk about sequester cuts in the future
    • Form a bipartisan group to hammer out more long-term details. (Although as The Washington Post points out, those usually don't work)
The White House budget office says federal workers should plan to return to work Thursday morning.
